About the awards

The Sat Paul Mittal National Award for outstanding service to humanity was instituted in 1992 by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, Ludhiana in the fond memory of its Founder President, Late Shri Sat Paul Mittal.

The award carries a total amount of Rs 12 lacs along with citations.

The awards are given under two categories:

  • Sat Paul Mittal Platinum Award is given every year to an individual(s) and institution(s) rendering outstanding service to humanity and carries an amount of Rs 5 lacs each.
  • Sat Paul Mittal Gold Award is given every year to an individual(s) and institution(s) rendering outstanding service to humanity and carries an amount of Rs 1 lac each.

Shri Sat Paul Mittal was a kind-hearted man, who worked all through his life selflessly for the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society and reached out to them for their amelioration. He was an excellent orator, a keen debater and a widely travelled person. He had unflinching faith in the common destiny of mankind and was particularly interested in the promotion of the Indian youth. Shri Mittal was a great institution builder and established Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust at Ludhiana and Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IAPPD) in Delhi. Committed to the cause of education, he initiated various scholarship programs for the underprivileged and meritorious students.

Late Shri Mittal served as the Deputy Home Minister, Punjab and was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1976, 1982 and then again nominated in 1988. As Founder Secretary General and Vice Chairman of Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) and Chairman of Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (IAPPD), Shri Mittal assiduously worked for fostering the cause of population stabilization. His efforts received well-deserved recognition internationally when he was awarded the prestigious United Nations’ Peace medal in 1987 for his outstanding contribution in the field of population and development. Also, as Founder Chairman of Parliamentarians Action for Removal of Apartheid [PARA-India], he led the Parliamentary Campaign against apartheid all over the world. As Co-Chairman of Global Forum of Spiritual and Parliamentary Leaders on Human Survival, he made significant contribution towards peaceful resolution of burning issues facing mankind.

Shri Mittal has left behind a rich legacy and posterity shall gratefully remember the significant contributions made by him in promoting better awareness of population and development, environment, apartheid and human survival issues.

Nominations

  • The award is open to all individuals and institutions
  • Nominations maybe proposed by a nominator or self-nomination
  • Past awardees can also nominate other eligible individuals and institutions
  • The decision of the Awards Committee shall be final

Nominations may be proposed by a nominator or by the nominee themselves. A nominator can be anyone who might be inside or external to the organization, this could be a beneficiary, partnering organization, government agency etc. Nominators are requested to share a brief background of themselves in the submission form. This information will be kept confidential by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust.

Once the application form is received, our team will notify the selected applicant.
Guidelines for applying
  • Complete the application/nomination form in English as clearly as possible
  • Be precise in your responses; provide evidence and concrete examples
  • Provide real-life examples of beneficiaries when applicable
  • Include tangible numbers and proof of impact
  • Award entry to be brief and should be limited to two pages

The decision will be made by the jury and its decision shall be final.

Important Dates

The last date for submission of nominations is 31st August, 2023.

Our team will contact the awardees prior to the awards ceremony. Post the award ceremony, Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust will inform all nominators & nominees regarding the awardees in each category.

Preferably, the awardee must try to attend the event in person. Except in case of unforeseen circumstances, awardee to nominate a senior person to receive the award in person at the function to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab.

The award ceremony will take place in Ludhiana in the month of November each year.
